Why join a choir?
Singing and making music is one of the great joys in our lives. Singing has also been shown to improve well being and boost self esteem, and learning how to sing a new song gives the grey cells an important workout. Another benefit is the social interaction with like minded people and the new friendships which will be made from singing in a choir.
If that has convinced you that joining a choir is a jolly good idea then Village Voices may well be the choir for you. We are a small friendly choir who sing for fun but we also aim to keep on improving our singing under the guidance of our musical director. We do use sheet music but you do not need to be able to read music; many of us learn by ear.
Our repertoire is very varied including well known choral works, sacred music as well as pop, traditional and modern folk, gospel and jazz.
We perform three concerts a year in the beautiful surroundings of St Leonard's Church in Sandridge. Concerts provide for small group and solo spots as well as a range of choir numbers. Groups from the choir also perform at other local events and organisations from time to time. We rehearse in the church on Thursday evenings from 7.30 to 9pm. Membership is open to all, no auditions and costs approximately £60 per term.
